TRAFO

TRAFO is a typological study of old electrical transformer towers in rural southern Germany, photographed on 4×5 large format film. The project looks at these utilitarian structures not only as isolated objects, but as elements embedded within their surrounding landscapes.

Each structure is recorded in relation to its immediate environment — fields, roads, vegetation, and nearby buildings — allowing for a reading that connects infrastructure and place. The consistent photographic approach highlights both formal similarities and contextual differences across locations.

The use of a large format camera introduces a slow and deliberate way of working, emphasizing precision, detail, and attention to spatial relationships. Over time, TRAFO builds a fragmented portrait of a landscape shaped by small, often unnoticed infrastructural interventions.
